| Geilo Church, formerly Ustedalen Chapel, was consecrated in 1890. In 1958-1960 the church was rebuilt and restored. A new and bigger church porch and a bigger sacristy were built. The church was recently replaced by the newly built Geilo Kulturkyrkje which hosts most of the celebrations and cultural events in the area. The railway line which passes Geilo just halfway between Oslo and Bergen facilitated its development as the first skiing resort in the country, being still one of the largest. The town with the old church in its very centre lies 800 metres above sea level. |
